Lent Lunches The Lent Lunches in our Parishes this year have been very enjoyable and most of the lunches were well attended. As well as enjoying the meal (lovely soups, etc) it was great to meet up with so many people from the different Parishes. While being social it also gave an opportunity to donate some money to a most worthwhile cause, which this year was the Children's Hospice. The hospice relies totally on people's generosity to keep going and giving children and their families care. The donations given at the Lunches plus the collection at the Ash Wednesday Service and some other donations came to £1,276. The rebate from Gift Aid envelopes will add another £54, making a total of £1,330, which is wonderful! Many thanks to the organisers of the lunches and all the helpers, also to everyone who came to the lunches and gave so generously. Donations at our Lent Lunches last year were given to Tear Fund's "Water Fund", which helps to provide Third World communities with safe and accessible water and adequate sanitation facilities. The donations given at the Lunches came to £1,351. Donations at our Lent Lunches in 2006 were given to the Children's Hospice South West for the new children's hospice being built at Wraxall, near Bristol. The donations at the Lunches came to £1,331.50 and with other donations and money raised by North Cadbury Primary School, the total sent to the Hospice came to £1,671.50. Donations at our Lent Lunches in 2005 were given to "Send a Cow", a charity which works with local groups in East Africa to provide farmers with livestock. Donations came to £1,300.00, enough to pay for a cow, two pairs of goats, two pigs, a flock of poultry, a hive of bees and thirty fruit tree saplings. |
