THE KIRK SESSION
The
Kirk Session is the lowest of the courts in the
The Church of Scotland.
(The 2 higher courts are
Presbytery,
and
General Assembly which is the highest.)
Meetings of the Kirk Session are convened and chaired by the
Minister who is the
Moderator of the Kirk Session.
The Kirk Session has spiritual responsibility for the congregation and parish,
and has spiritual jurisdiction over all members of the congregation, with the exception of its Moderator
or any other ministers who are members of the congregation, all ministers being subject to the Presbytery.
The Kirk Session is also responsible for the appointment of the Organist and of the Church Officer(beadle) of the congregation.
Members of the Kirk Session are known as Elders and are ordained to this office.
There are presently 14 Elders on the Kirk Session at Northfield - 7 women and 7 men. They are :
M. J. Ross (Session Clerk) , M.Adams, F. Burnett, M. Burnett, I. Cowie, M. Fraser,
I. Ingram, G. Low, L. Low, M. Milne, M. Mulloy, P. Savage, E.Wilson, S. Wright.
Our Session Clerk is Mr. Mike Ross.
The duties of the Session Clerk are to prepare and keep the minutes of Session meetings
and issue extracts when instructed, to ensure the safe custody of all official records,
and to deal with correspondence from other courts and committees of the Church.
The Session Clerk is also the one on whom devolves the duty of taking emergency action
in the absence of the minister.
Our Church Officer is Mr. Peter Savage.
There is no appointed Organist at present.
Our Roll Keeper is Mr. P. Ewen.
Duties of the Roll Keeper include maintaining a list of names & addresses of
all Communicant Members of the congregation, plus that of all Adherents and
persons on the Supplementary Roll.
Meetings of the Kirk Session are held every 2nd or 3rd month.
Meetings are open for anyone to attend, but only members of Session or persons specifically invited to do so,
may take part in the proceedings of the meeting.
The next scheduled meeting of the Kirk Session at Northfield is in November 2007 at 7.30pm.
This will again be a joint meeting with the Congregational Board.
All items for the agenda should be in the Minister's hands by the preceding Friday.

THE CONGREGATIONAL BOARD
The Congregational Board is made up of all the members of the Kirk Session(the Elders - see above)
plus a number of other members elected from within the congregation.
Those currently elected as Board members are:-
C. Cook, M. Duguid, P. Ewen, V. Fyfe, A. Guy , K. Hepburn.
The Board is responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the buildings etc.
and for management of the financial affairs of the congregation.
The Clerk to the Congregational Board is Rene Cowie.
The Treasurer to the congregation is Mr Frank Burnett.
The Property Committee Convenor position is vacant at present.
The Finance Committee Convenor is Mr F. Burnett
The Freewill Offering Convenor is Mr P. Ewen
The Board normally meets 3 or 4 times a year.
Meetings are chaired by the Minister, or if necessary by an appointed deputy.
The next scheduled meeting of the Board is in November 2007 along with the meeting of the Kirk Session.
