To All Preachers,

We look forward to seeing you at Brookside to lead us in a service of worship.

One of our organists and pianists (or the all-age service Band) will accompany the singing for that morning. One of our Stewards will ring you in the previous week for the hymns and any readings you would like our readers to do. When the Sunday Club is worshipping with the adults, our Worship Leader, Joanna Parkin, is usually available to help with the service, and an all-age drama group is getting off the ground.

We have facilities for multi-media presentation. If you wish to use this we need your order of service by the Tuesday at the latest. It would be great if you could use PowerPoint. We have copies of The Source and Hymns and Psalms, and can project all of the songs in Songs of Fellowship Volumes 1, 2, and 3. We also have a CD player, a number of New International Version Bibles in the chairs and one copy of The Dramatised Bible.

There is a book on the table in the entrance foyer where people are invited to write down any requests for prayer for themselves or for others. We would appreciate it if you could include these requests in the prayers during the service.

In each month, the usual pattern of the 10:30am morning worship is as follows:

On the 1st Sunday the adults worship in a traditional style completely separately from the Sunday Club who worship and meet together in their own way.

On the 2nd Sunday all ages worship together for the whole of the service, which does not have to last as long as the ,obligatory, hour. An All-Age Band is usually available to play, and they would appreciate suggestions for songs by Tuesday at the latest so that the songs can be agreed and music sheets prepared in time for the band practice on Friday evening.

On the 3rd, 4th and 5th Sundays in each month, Sunday Club will be in for the first 15minutes, so please would you remember this when preparing your service, and pray for the children and leaders before they leave, usually after the 2nd song (when the offertory may take place).

On the 4th Sunday in each month the worship style is contemporary. That is, the structure, style and substance of the service is not at all confined by traditional constraints but by contemporary culture and modern Christian resources. A small singing group may also be available.

To prepare ourselves for worship, the Steward will light a candle and then the congregation will either sing, or listen to, a worshipful song/hymn which has been chosen.

Evening worship begins at 6:30pm. The atmosphere of worship is more intimate than in the morning as the number of our congregation is much smaller and we meet in a circle near the organ and piano. The exception to this pattern is the Youth / Celebration Service each third Sunday. In these evenings adults join in worship that is prepared and lead by young people and youth leaders. Common elements include video clips, FOOD and home made drama (not the other way around!)

Please refer to the Preaching Plan to see which sort of service you will be leading and if there are any other special circumstances mentioned. The variety of worship that is lead by Local Preachers, Presbyteral and Diaconal Ministers, guest Preachers and local arrangements, is widely appreciated, so please do be creative if you feel drawn to do something that is different. The congregation is getting used to (and growing in confidence in):

interacting with those leading worship during sermons and prayers;

the extra variety and use of projected sound and still or moving images;

experimenting with Cafe Worship and bi-monthly prayer breakfasts; and

following up other ideas that came out of a church in-reach weekend lead by a team from The Lay Witness Movement.

We pray you will find blessing in preparing and leading the worship of God with us.

Yours in Christ Jesus,

On behalf of the Worship Consultation Group and Church Stewards.
